Open Question: Should a loan company ask for your 16 digit card number O_o?

I’ve got bad credit and have been applying for loans a lot (keep getting rejected). However, none of the companies have asked for my 16 digit card number before.
Someone from Yes Loans called me last night. I gave her all my personal details including account number and sort code. But then a few questions later she asks me for the 16 digit number on the front of my card.
I asked why and she said “for security reasons so we know you are who you say you are”.
Right ok, so she has my name, DOB, address, account number and sort code, place of work, work phone number etc. and they need this too?
I had to tell her to cancel to application because I wasn’t comfortable with this, but if she e-mails me some official documentation I would check it through with family to make sure it’s safe. She says that they process thousands of loans a month and that it’s done over the phone for safety reasons.
Wow long question but tl; dr – are they supposed to ask for the 16 digit card number???

I have been instructed by a friend to apply for a personal loan (he’s in a military prison, it’s for expenses until his pension kicks in, he gets out in January)
I have been researching this, he’s even given me power of attorney (I’m his daughters boyfriend, he’s coming up to live with us until he establishes himself.) I just don’t know where I can go to do this. He’s been in there for 5+ years so his credit is flawless. I’ve heard plenty of people do this and have done it but it seems that it may be a bit more difficult than I thought. I don’t have a copy of his ID, I have all of his information.
Any help would be great!!
Thanks

I am considering applying for a $5,000 personal loan from my bank. What are my chances of being approved based on the following information: My Equifax score is 654, I’ve been at my job for over 4 years, my debt to income ratio is 26%, the only debt I have is student loans and a $250 credit card balance which combined equal about 50% of my yearly income.
