Open Question: Should I leave my husband?

Like many of you, if a spouse hit you, you should pack your things and leave. Simple, right? As for me it’s not. I’m not brave or have the courage to leave my husband.

For the last 4 years of our marriage my husband get angrier at me, and the abuse get worst every year. I got married to my husband and eloped at age 20, he was 21. I gave up my good life and college to be with him. At first he was really nice but after 3 months of marriage, he wasn’t the same guy that I knew and he started to grab my arms harshly. Now it’s to the point where he is choking me, exactly one hour ago.

My husband is addicting to games, constanly late for work and getting fired more than 3 times per year.

My husband and I have no kids.

Since we got married we have never open any joint accounts or anything. He didn’t help me to pay for my school, student loan, my credit cards and etc. So in the end I have to pay everything on my own, and whenever I have extra I’ll help him pay off his credit card and etc…I guess whatever I do isn’t good enough for him. I cook, clean, work, take care of our puppy, and etc. He doesn’t do anything except working and playing his online games.

So fastfoward, we got into a argument, he grabbed two of my arms really hard, and then choke me, and drag me to the front door. When I kick him he did the arm lock and push me to the Floor, and then he step on me with one of his foot.

I want to leave him but I love him. I’m stupid and foolish. I moved out of state to be with him, gave up my family for me, just everything. Even my dad was nice enough to buy me a car, that he is paying for and yet my husband is driving my car. He sold his blue car and he get mad at me if I tell him to be careful when driving because I don’t want a stretch on my car. He doesn’t like it when I say it’s my car not his.

I’m crying as I write this. I have never told anyone about my personal stuffs. Everyone think my husband treat me like a queen.

Resolved Question: Do you know where I can find a Credit Card or Personal Loan?

I’m looking for a credit card for a person with no credit and the only one I can find is the one from Capital One where I pay money on it first and I don’t feel comfortable doing that.
Is there anywhere else you think that I could get a credit card from? or a Personal Loan?
Also I live in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Last semester during college I had to drop my classes do to a personal issue, and believe me it was not an easy decision to make. Now that i have made my fall schedule my college had denied me financial aid. I’m very lost in all of this and I was wondering if somebody could answer me a question – can I get financial aid through Sallie Mae?

I know it probably seems like a silly question but please don’t give me any rude answers. I’ve been trying to contact my college nonstop and nobody has returned my calls.

Resolved Question: Have you ever had an experience/encounter that forever changed your social perspective or personal conduct?

To clarify the question, I’ll share with you a personal anecdote.

One day, my sister had kindly agreed to give me a ride to a rather far-off place (from where I lived) at a time when I did not have a vehicle or any other realistic means of getting there. It was one of many kindnesses given to me by this wonderful person whom I treasure above all others.

The event that changed me happened somewhere along the way, when an obviously homeless person hailed us at a gas station and politely asked if we could spare some change for a cup of coffee (yes, we both knew he wasn’t going to spend it on coffee–spare me the judgmental one-liners). I didn’t have a penny to spare at the time, and my sister was not much better off. Her reply was, “I don’t have any change, but hang on just a sec.” She dug around in her purse and withdrew every bill she had. I’m not sure how much it was, but if I had to guess, I’d say it was around $100 or so.

Up until then, I had always considered myself a relatively generous and kind-hearted person. But I never would have done what she did.

As it happened, her son was in the back seat (and to put this in perspective, she was living on student loans at the time, with a small child to take care of as a single mother). Young as the boy was, he was smart and aware enough to grasp, at least to some degree, what had just taken place. He asked her something to the effect of, “Why did you give him anything? You don’t even know him.”

Her response was a bit snippy–”Because we have money and he doesn’t.” It was the first time I’d ever heard her speak harshly to her son.

I could go on–the conversation we had afterward, her reasons for doing what she did, etc. But I don’t think that’s necessary.

Needless to say, it made me feel. . . small. I pride myself in my ability to express my thoughts and feelings in the written word, but in this case, words fail me. All I can say is that it changed me forever, changed my perception of myself and others around me in a way that can’t be adequately expressed on the internet.

So. . . the question is, have you ever had an meaningful encounter/discussion/observation that caused you to completely reassess your own self and/or others around you? What was it?

my friend owned a small business back in 2006-2007. Unfortunately the business didn’t go well and so he didn’t have money to pay his taxes, specifically sales and use taxes (in Nevada). the business was a corporation and he was the only owner..the president, treasurer etc.. He ended up filing for personal bankruptcy because he had taken out personal loans to pay for business expenses and the business wasn’t doing well so he couldn’t make the payments on the personal loans. He is about 15000 behind on sale and use taxes. He asked me for advise and I said that I thought that because the business was a corporation then the corporation was responsible for the debts and he wasn’t personally liable. The status of the corporation is ‘revoked’ on the treasury website. now the federal government is asking for the money and we want to know what our options are. He is currently working part time and his spouse lost her 2nd job so they really don’t have money for a lawyer or to pay the amount. But we found the offer in compromise form on the state website so we are going to fill it out and see if the amount can be reduced to a small monthly payment. I think they said they can pay about $100 a month or so.
my question is ..is he personally reliable for sales and use taxes? or not if the business was a corporation and is currently in revoked status.
