Open Question: HELP IMPROVE THIS SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY?

This is my very first draft I just typed. It is 632 words but I need to bring it down to 500. But I need help, suggestions, anything. The essay prompt is to tell them why I deserve this scholarship. I decided to take a personal approach with a small biography and here’s what happened:
My relaxing sleep to the sound of rain was interrupted by water splashing in my face and the realization that I now lied in a soaking wet mattress. Our RV had once again fallen victim to the damage of another thunderstorm, and my top bunk had received the worst damage. As I watched my tired father, half-awake, hastily trying to fix the hopeless ruins of the storm, I thought about my old bed in our old house in Arkansas which we had left behind to come live in the city, in hopes of a better life. I looked over at my mother’s weary face and had never felt so sure of anything: I was going to college.
School had never been a problem for me. As a child, I showed early signs of interest in education. In elementary, I was reading at an advanced level and knew I liked school. From memorizing my division tables to perfecting my cursive, I did everything I could to get my school’s attention and fortunately did. In third grade, I was selected for the gifted and talented program and the school’s academic competitive team. I placed in several spelling bees and received many awards for my scholastic efforts. In sixth grade, I received the Presidential Award of Education and was recognized as a distinguished achievement student. My hopes of attending college and pursuing a career flourished and I marveled at the thought of becoming a successful graduate.
The only thing that stood in the way of my plans was my family’s economic conditions. We have always been financially unstable and I soon learned that paying for college would not be as simple as I thought. When I was still in fourth grade my father was injured at work leaving my mother to take care of our family. She somehow managed to balance four full time jobs and take care of me and my two brothers. On top of everything, my mother was doing an inspirational thing: going back to college. Through backbreaking work and amazing perseverance, my mother proved to us that we could still progress despite our financial issues. Whether it be through loans or scholarships, our opportunities were endless. Once my father recovered, he sought to find work in the Houston area, as employment was low in our small hometown. His migration to the city shone a new light on my parents to move us out of that town and find a place with better education opportunities.
The transaction from the remote country life to the urban city life was the hardest thing I have ever experienced. We lived in very poor conditions and I had to share a bed with two teenage brothers and a number of pesticides. But that did not discourage me from my dream of going to college; it motivated me even more. Upon entering high school, I decided to graduate in the distinguished achievement program. I explored all the areas of study and became interested in the world of forensic sciences. I have been taking advanced placement courses and joined numerous clubs and organizations to continue being a recognized student. This has not been at all easy, the constant stress and the sacrifices I’ve made for my education have not always been fun but I am determined to go to college.
Receiving this scholarship could truly help me in my quest to receive post secondary education. Because I cannot contribute to society financially, my studying forensics would allow me to make a difference in other ways such as helping solve criminal cases and prevent others from alcohol or toxic damages. Receiving a good education would open many doors for me and it would mean that all of the sacrifices by my parents and myself have not been in vain.

I want a small personal loan for a car. I want a Pontiac Fiero. It is too old to get a loan from a bank so what do I do? The price should be between 3000 and 14,000. What are my options for a loan? I have good credit. I have a job that makes 20,000 dollars a year. I rent a house for 300 a month. What do I do? I have a down payment as well.
Open Question: Chance for graduate school?

I’m in my third year of college as an English major and have around a 3.8 GPA thus far. The only job experience I have is working at a coffee shop for four years and counting. I’m not minoring in anything, I don’t have any hands on (tutoring or anything of the like) experience, and I’ve only met the minimum foreign language requirement to get a B.A. in English.
To narrow it down:
I have nothing that’s resume-worthy. How can I make myself (seem) marketable?
I haven’t even begun to prepare for the GRE. I’m awful at mathematics. How do I even begin to conquer this?
I only know bits and pieces of French. I have no room to fit in all of the extra classes I’d need to become fluent… hello Rosetta Stone?
I have about $5,000 saved — ah, meager, I know. I’m well prepared to take loans out if I can find a career as an editor, freelance artist, teacher, professor, or anything that allows me to work with literature and writing. Making just enough money to eat, write, and live is all that matters; I’m not one for excess or superfluousness.
There are reasons behind my lack of candidacy (personal and family issues that colleges need not know of, nor would they really care). PLEASE tell me if I have a chance at graduate school considering all of my hindrances! With all of these questions, no one has helped steer me in the right direction… state colleges are just wonderful, eh?
Sorry for the discrepancies and omissions!
My criticism towards state colleges should have been directed solely towards mine. I’ve tried addressing these concerns with a few career counselors as well as my adviser but none of them have helped; they simply implied that it’s “a rat race for humanities majors,” and sent me on my way. May be the truth, but I still need to know how to make my way into that rat race if I’ve any chance at all.
Considering the job market, I’ve been wavering back and forth between possible careers. My ideal goal would be to become a professor of American literature studies, however, the most realistic career would likely be teaching at a high school level or editing for a small publishing house. So, an M.A. or an M.A.T. are what I’m looking at.
I feel anyone who puts forth all of their efforts in maintaining a decent GPA and is well-rounded should deserve student loans. It’s not as if I’d get a free ride, I’d have to

I have over $20,000 worth of debt. Including a voluntary repossessed car, medical bills, and credit card. most if not all of my debt would be covered under chapter 7 bankruptcy( i think) My question is what happens after wards. I know life isn’t the easiest at least for the next 7 to 10 yrs. I wont be able to finance anything and i know that. But at this point it is no different. I cant get any loans, unable to qualify for home loans or anything. so before anyone tells me to re-consider just no that I have no funds to repay what i owe and since i don’t qualify for anything now it cant hurt that bad to file right? i want to know if you or anyone you know has filed for bankruptcy and how they rebuilt there credit score. I want to buy a house in my future and at this point that’s not even an option. I know after bankruptcy is discharged you may qualify for a fha loan two years after discharged. so anyone who has personal experience i want to hear from you. Did it help you? even in the long run. How was your life effected by this? What did you lose? Did you lose any personal property? I own a Mobile home and i pay lot rent. Is it possible that i can get evicted even if im not behind on my rent? thanks for any info!

Maybe someone can help answer my question in general.
Here is a little info: I have been at my current company for over 2 years now. I have brought my credit from 500’s to mid 600 range. I just recently bought a house. I have a few other personal loans 100 a month notes here and there nothing too large other than my mortage. I make 60k average a year.
Now the question:
What are the chances of me getting a auto loan for a used vehicle that is around the 18k range. If i put 5000-7000 down on the vehicle??
Also any idea of how i should go about trying to obtain this loan? And what average monthly payments am i looking at?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I’m gay. Homophobes, judge me if you want but it’s irrelevant. I’ve been seeing this really hot guy who is UNHAPPY in his relationship. I don’t know if his boyfriend has been snooping through his pockets, email, facebook or whatever but he tracked me and him down earlier this afternoon. I’m 23 and I’ve been staying with my grandmother for 2 years but the guy that I’m dating loaned me the money I need to get my own apartment. I’ll be moving sometime next week. Anyway, the guy and I were doing “whatever” in my bedroom at my grandmother’s house. I’m going to give any names.
The bell rang and my grandmother answered it. I didn’t think anything was wrong until I heard a lot of shouting. So the guy and I rushed to get dressed and then ran downstairs to the front door. His boyfriend was all in my grandmother’s face yelling and cursing. My grandmother kept yelling at him to leave before she calls the police on him. Yes, I’m “wrong” for dating someone else’s boyfriend but that gives him no right to disrespect my grandmother on her own property. What kind of sick twisted freak would try and intimidate a 76 year old woman? So I approach the jerk, we’re both furious, he’s angry about me being with his boyfriend and I’m angry about him, I repeat, DISRESPECTING my grandmother. It almost got violent but the guy that I’m sleeping with started basically dragging his flaming queen boyfriend back to her…excuse me, I mean….HIS car while he’s still screaming and cursing at everyone. While they drove off, I threw a rock at the car and broke a taillight. That was early this afternoon and no police were called. Is that a good sign? My grandmother was very upset and she told me to find somewhere else to stay until I move into my new apartment. I don’t tell my family my personal business, so she had no idea that the guy I’m seeing already has a boyfriend. Now, I do feel bad about the trouble and embarrassment I caused my grandma. Seriously, if he took me to court for the damage done to his taillight, will the judge likely take into consideration the fact that the man brought his car onto my grandmother’s property and harassed her? My grandma is mad at me but she still agreed to be my witness if necessary.
Please don’t give any biased answers based on the nature of the situation aka the cheating factor. Thank you.

I’m a 20 year old full time college student, live at home with my mom and have a part time job, Paid for school myself with a personal loan through bank spring semester 2011 and the Fall 2011 with student loans, I provide for myself. Transportation, clothes, and everything else I need to survive. this year I made a total of 16,000.00 and paid 1800.00 in taxes —-My mother is PISSED that I filed myself and said as long as I live with her I am a dependent. —-I think that is so wrong. I worked hard for the money I made and have to pay for school and for the things I need. If I file as a dependent I will get less so much less back, and she will get more and wouldn’t even give me what I contributed. She said she’s going to file me regardless and I need to fix it or Im going to be in trouble with the IRS. —- I dont think this is fair what can I do?

When I first moved out on my own, I had a decent paying job, was able to cover all of my bills and credit car payments. But then the company I worked for cut my pay by 300 every two weeks, and told me it was only temporary. This was a huge set back. To make matters worse, my perfect little car all the sudden began to crap out. I invested $800 on repairs only for my car to completely break down two days later. And to make matters even worse, my wallet with my entire paycheck was stolen out of my purse when I wasn’t looking. My credit it not good nor horrifying, my parents have horrible credit. I can’t work without a car, I already missed two days. I need a personal loan for a car, then I can work two jobs to quickly pay my debts. It seems all of my options are dried up, I will lose my apartment and job if I don’t come up with money for a car. Any advice?
