Open Question: work study program…do i get to keep some of the money that i work for?

I am eligible for a work study program and i was wondering does all the money i work for go towards repayment or do I get to keep part of that money for my own personal use? In other words, if I have a $1000 per semester work study program eligibility, do I work and give everything I earn to that or do I get to keep some of the money while still paying back the work study loan
